Could [100,100] not be allowed to SEND? Some bagbiter SENT me a note
yesterday saying " what is COPY, everyone is using it". I told him to
fuck off and he sent me several more notes, even though I killed his
parent several times. Today he sent me another note. Logged in from
RADC-Tip by the way. I would suggest that neither not-logged-in nor
[NET,GUE] be allowed to SEND or MAIL. If the person doesn't have login
privileges somewhere on the net then he shouldn't be mailing - or even
 using the TIP.

Proposal to JMC on JMG's experiment.

The experiment which I am running has listeners interactively tune
the pitches, loudnesses, and perceived durations of various
instruments to sound equal to one another. This requires the use of
the computer because of the needed interaction. It is the only one
of my planned experiments which have necessitated such an on-line
ability, and in fact, represents the first such experiment which has
ever been done. In essence, the computer opens up the possibility
for such a complex, interactive control in perceptual experimentation,
and this is a point we would like to demonstrate in our NSF proposal
 in psychobiology.

The reason for this matching experiment is to prepare a set of tones
which are equalized in perceived pitch, loudness, and duration and
can be used in taped experiments on timbre perception, my
dissertation project. I expect that, at most, I have about 6 more
hours of this remaining, i.e. six more listeners to measure. I have
scheduled them around Bruce, and most are coming in this weekend.
That would take care of the experiment, allowing me to go on to the
 non-interactive taped studies.

I have been made aware of the problems which this has brought out,
and have been trying to meet each problem with a suitable
 modification of the experiment program.

They revolve about the XGP, which must be assigned in order to play
sounds and not ruin someone's simultaneous listing. I therefore made
my program assign, and wait to assign, the device before each
interaction, and give it up after each interaction (an interaction
lasting 4 seconds). I have just found out that this is not enough
for the XGP spooler, however, because it does not wait to get the
device if it finds it in use. Now, I am also looking to see if there
is something in the XPG spooler's que, and if so, waiting until it
 has been spooled.

I regret the inconveniences which I have caused. Is there anything
else I could tell you about this project?

In some ways NS is less useful to me than APE:

 	1. No multiple-word keys. Thus I get NEW_LONDON and NEW_ENGLAND
as well as LONDON and ENGLAND.
 	2. Poor word-endings heuristic. Word endings are stripped off
so that cognate words often "match". But under the scheme WALES matches
 WALL!

Today in a story list of 15 stories, 7 were stories I didn't want to read,
1 due to reason one (can't tell it what I want), and 6 for reason two (it
 doesn't care anyway!).

hi john. thanks for your message. Id certainly appreciate any references
you dig up. I appreciate youtr concern for dynamics, but feel it is
also necessary to consider "static" structure if only to adequately
describe the effects of actions on them. For example, causality seems
to me to be basically to do with the way the (static) world is
arranged, ie its aproperty of the physical world that causal chains
are usually short and predictable(in some sense), NOT a property
of actions. cf. my MI6 paper. I got onto substances by thinking
about actions like painting things, and spilling liguids, and
 drinkimg.
On a tolally different subject, . Your lab has been been breeding
some notorious "anti← logic" people, like Wilks especially. What
do you thimnk of these virulent attacks on logic? i f you have
any notes against them i would be very interested. I think wilks,
and minsky too, are very confused about what is meant by logic,
and that is the root problem. But maybe you are not
interested in all this debating? it certainly occupies a lot of to time.

From an uninformed point-of-view, it appears that you invert on

Aside from the intellectual interest in the techniques of your

May I forward expressions of REAL interest to you.

Lastly, from my brief exposure to your NS, I find it [from a user
